Section 3 - Hazards Identification

EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

Appearance: yellow-beige flakes.
Warning! Flammable solid. Heating may cause an explosion. Can decompose violently at elevated temperatures. Causes eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin.
Target Organs: Central nervous system, respiratory system, eyes, skin, autonomic nervous system.

Potential Health Effects
Eye: Causes eye irritation.
Skin: Causes skin irritation. Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Not expected to cause an allergic skin reaction.
Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. May cause irritation of the digestive tract. May cause headache, nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. May cause central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous system effects.
Inhalation: Causes respiratory tract irritation. May cause central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous system effects. Harmful if inhaled.
Chronic: No information found.

Section 4 - First Aid Measures

Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin: Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid if irritation develops or persists. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid.
Inhalation: Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid if cough or other symptoms appear. Do NOT use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.

Section 5 - Fire Fighting Measures

General Information: As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. This material in sufficient quantity and reduced particle size is capable of creating a dust explosion. Flammable solid. Explosive decomposition may occur under fire conditions.
Extinguishing Media: Use water spray, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide.
Flash Point: 170 deg C ( 338.00 deg F)
Autoignition Temperature: 400 deg C ( 752.00 deg F)
Explosion Limits, Lower:2.4 Vol%
Upper: Not available.
NFPA Rating: (estimated) Health: 2; Flammability: 2; Instability: 2

Section 6 - Accidental Release Measures

General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks: Scoop up with a nonsparking tool, then place into a suitable container for disposal. Avoid generating dusty conditions. Remove all sources of ignition. Provide ventilation.

Section 7 - Handling and Storage

Handling: Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Minimize dust generation and accumulation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames. Avoid breathing dust. May explode during vacuum distillation. Do not use this process. Exercise caution in heating, especially in a closed container.
Storage: Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep from contact with oxidizing materials. Flammables-area.

Section 8 - Exposure Controls, Personal Protection

Engineering Controls: Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or local explosion-proof ventilation to keep airborne levels to acceptable levels.
Exposure Limits
Chemical Name ACGIH NIOSH OSHA - Final PELs
Benzotriazole none listed none listed none listed

OSHA Vacated PELs: Benzotriazole: No OSHA Vacated PELs are listed for this chemical.
